Thrust SSC

Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA - 11th October 1997

UK readers please note: the Black Rock Desert is on Pacific Daylight Time, 8 hours behind British Summer Time.

1415 hrs

Some of the surface is still damp and there is a strong crosswind - running has been postponed until tomorrow. ThrustSSC has the first desert 'slot' and will roll out at 0800hrs. Accredited members of the media wishing to attend the Press Area opposite the measured mile during the runs should present themselves at Access 2 at 0730hrs.

1230 hrs

It's snowing (just a few flakes)...

1015 hrs

The white-lining is continuing on the drying playa - and will do so for the next hour after which a full track inspection will be made.

0815 hrs

The tracks are dry apart from north end which is still damp, but is drying. The white lines have been damaged by the rain. The next hour-and-a-half will be spent repainting the lines with gypsum and allowing the track to dry further - once the lines are completed a decision to run or not will be made based on the weather.

0730 hrs

The desert is drying very well - we will update this page as soon as we know the results of the track inspection.
