2130 hrs

The surface of the Black Rock Desert has been soaked by a heavy rainstorm this evening. Until the morning we cannot tell whether the white lines have survived. Roll-out will not take place at 0730hrs as planned - we will try to run again tomorrow subject to the results of the course inspection, otherwise we will run on Sunday.

1500 hrs

ThrustSSC has the first 'slot' tomorrow and will make two runs. Accredited members of the media wishing to attend the Press Area opposite the measured mile during the runs should present themselves at Access 2 at 0700hrs.

1400 hrs

Neither ThrustSSC nor Spirit of America will run today.

1200 hrs

ThrustSSC is on a 'weather hold' due to the continuing rain.

1015 hrs

ThrustSSC is scheduled to roll out at 1045hrs.

0900 hrs

Spirit of America are planning to roll out as soon as weather permits. ThrustSSC have the second 'slot'. It is currently raining.

The ThrustSSC Team are on the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA, for the head-to-head race against the Spirit of America Team to set the first ever supersonic World Land Speed Record.

  1. ThrustSSC has reached a highest speed through the measured mile to date of 728mph on Thursday 25th September 1997
  2. Subject to confirmation by the FIA, ThrustSSC set a new Unlimited World Land Speed Record of 714.144mph on Thursday 25th September 1997
  3. The car is on the desert being prepared for the next runs of the Black Rock Campaign

Team

  1. The ThrustSSC Team are settled into life in Gerlach and on the Black Rock Desert
  2. The dust is really getting onto some people's chests, despite the use of dust masks
  3. Long-stay Mach 1 Club member Andrew has had to return home having run out of vacation time (thanks for all your help!)

  1. The weather is generally cold in the morning, warming up to afternoon temperatures reaching the 70s (Fahrenheit)
  2. Dust storms are being kicked up on days with high winds
  3. Nights are bitterly cold now - winter is coming
  4. Today has started calm and very gloomy with light rain
