Car
- ThrustSSC has reached a peak speed to date of 540mph during the Jordan2 Campaign in June 1997
- ThrustSSC has reached a Black Rock Campaign peak speed to date of 148mph on Monday 8th September 1997
- The car is on the desert being prepared for the next runs of the Black Rock Campaign
Team
- The ThrustSSC Team are settled into life in Gerlach and on the Black Rock Desert
Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA
- The desert is dry for some 15 miles and the 13-mile course is good
- Two tracks have been lined for 13 miles and fodded for 8.5 miles

- The Web Site equipment is being unpacked and set up

- 280mph indicated, approximately 300mph groundspeed. Full dry power.
- 420mph indicated, approximately 450mph groundspeed. Minimum afterburners.
- 510mph indicated, approximately 550mph groundspeed. Maximum afterburners.
- Posted 1935 hrs Wednesday: Journalists wishing to see the runs planned for tomorrow (Thursday) from the Press Area should be at Access 2 for 0700hrs

The Spirit of America Team are on the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA, for the head-to-head race against the
ThrustSSC Team to set the first ever supersonic World Land Speed Record.
- Spirit of America has reached a peak speed to date of 675mph on the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA,
during the October 1996 record attempt
- Spirit of America has reached a 1997 peak speed to date of 328mph on the Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA
- Serious engine damage has been sustained due to FOD (Foreign Object Damage) ingestion. The car and team
have returned to Rio Vista, California, to install their spare engine. They expect to return to the Black
Rock Desert on Friday or Saturday to resume their record attempt.
Mazola Excursion
The ThrustSSC Team use a Hughes satellite system to keep in touch with the UK using phone, fax and
data links. The phones act as extensions off Hughes' internal exchange - so even though they are in the
middle of a desert, they still have to 'dial 9 for an outside line'!
