Project Status - Al Jafr, Jordan - 24th May 1997
The ThrustSSC Team are in Jordan continuing high-speed testing of ThrustSSC.

Individual Status Reports
Car
- ThrustSSC is on the desert in the Aireshelta and is being prepared for planned runs on Monday
Team
- The team are excited to be back in Jordan and settling into their now homes on the King Feisal Al Jafr air base
- The remaining team members (Ron Ayers, Glynne Bowsher, Martyn Davidson, Rob Hemper and Graham Swain) arrive today
Jafr Desert, Jordan
- The Jafr Desert, Jordan, has dried well after the winter floods and is now usable. The surface is generally better than 1996.
Hardness is currently 14 or better on the California Bearing Ratio scale.
- The tracks have been surveyed and the white lines are being painted with 'jir'
- Several tracks have already been 'fodded' by the advance team, the rest are being prepared
- The Bedouin crossing tracks require further repair work
Black Rock Desert, Nevada, USA
Negotiations with the Bureau of Land Management are underway for the operating permit for this autumn's head-to-head with Craig Breedlove
and the Spirit of America.
Equipment
- The Aireshelta has been erected and its rubber flooring installed
- The Microlight has been erected and tested
- The Pit Station is at the desert pits and is being set up
- The Land Rover Discoverys have been collected from Aqaba
- The satellite link to the UK has been set up
