Royal Jordanian Airline Joins Thrust SSC As The First Major Sponsor From Jordan: We are proud to announce
that Royal Jordanian, Jordan’s national airline and flag-carrier, has joined the Thrust SSC Project as a main sponsor
for the Jordan trials. Royal Jordanian will supply jet fuel to the project and will help fly team members and necessary
spare parts if needed from London. All team member, notably Richard Noble, who have visited Jordan since January 1996,
have all flown Royal Jordanian and enjoyed their excellent service. Royal Jordanian offers the only daily London-Amman
service.
The airline was founded by Royal Decree in 1965 with the first flight on December15th of that year, and is held in
great esteem by all Jordanians. It currently flies to 45 cities worldwide with a very modern fleet of Tristar and Airbus
jets and an airline cargo operation.
Chairman Mr. Basil Jardaneh and Executive Assistant for Public Relations Mr. Munib Toukan are keen that Thrust SSC carries
the Royal Jordanian logo, that special Royal Jordanian T-shirts be available for the Team and for purchase by
supporters, and that the spectator area is well decorated with Royal Jordanian material. In addition they will supply
the Press Bus for the car’s arrival and ‘Royal Wings’, a subsidiary company, is also offering special flights to Al
Jafr to see the trials.
The Royal Jordanian Falcons Display Team are also world famous for their aerobatics at air displays, and are booked
to appear at Farnborough Air Display this year.
Royal Jordanian has its own Internet Site coming soon... We encourage you to check their detailed information on this site and
travel Royal Jordanian to Amman to see the trials:
Track: Finally we have managed to finish the 170 miles of white lines for Andy Green’s tracks... As we were
learning how to do this, and what mixtures best to use, and some sections proved to need some straightening so that
Andy is not distracted by bends or slight wobbles in the line, so what was originally planned as a 1-week job has
actually taken three! Nevertheless, as we first had to devise a cheap, easy, ecologically sound way to do this, the
result is not bad. It was suggested that Andy introduce some wobbles into his simulator programme track line to prepare
himself! The record here was 54 ½-mile lines run in a 5.30am to 11.30am session by Lieutenant Omran’s team. Next
time hopefully a small 12-volt laser system can be found to make this work easier.
Hopefully the car and team arrive here before the lines fade or become covered in sand!
Schedule: The delay in completing the car was announced on Jordan T.V. News, no arrival date or schedule was
now given as the Team are still hard at work and the vital tests need to be successfully completed first. Everyone
still asks, interest is even higher now that the Olympics are over, and Richard Noble’s film about Thrust 2
"For Britain And The Hell Of It" is now attracting crowds in the Forte Grand Hotel foyer!
Sponsorship: We hope that Royal Jordanian’s decision to sponsor the Thrust SSC Project will encourage other
Jordanian companies to come on board. Several have looked seriously at the project and are still considering it as
a publicity vehicle for their companies. Space on the car has been kept for them.
