Ian "Radar" DenningtonTechnician |
Occupation: | RAF Airframe Technician |
Current Residence: | RAF Marham |
DoB: | 4th October 1963 |
Place of birth: | Farnborough, Kent |
Marital Status: | Single |
Career: | I worked for Norwich Union while I waited to join the RAF in 1981. I then trained as an Airframe Technician. |
How did you get involved in the project? | I was serving at RAF Wattersham, Suffolk, when Richard Noble came to look at the Spey engines, then I joined the Mach 1 Club at the NEC Motor Show. At the 1995 British GP I met up with John Rowles who was on working on the ThrustSSC stand and he suggested that I might help out. |
Responsibilities in the UK: | In September 1995 I spend six weeks working on the car, building panels, and then helped out at the Earl's Court Motor Show. Because of where I am based it is not possible for me to "drop in" during the week, so I tend to work on the car for a week at a time. |
Responsibilities in Jordan: | Unfortunately I wasn't able to go to Jordan. |
Responsibilities in the US: | Any sort of general work that requires doing, including working with Leigh Remfry on the Supacats. |
Previous crazy ventures: | Circuit racing in my 1982 Lotus Esprit and white water rafting in Scotland. |
Car: | Lotus Esprit (1982) and Ford Sierra. |
Favourite Music: | Eclectic choice - anything from jazz, rock to classical. |
What sort of books would you read if you had the time? | Detective and thriller stories. |
Hobbies: | Car restoration, Formula 1 and photography. |
What do you want to do when the project is over? | Rest for a week, receive my promotion and then back to work. |
What have you learned from this experience? | I have learnt a different way of engineering - described as imagineering by James Morton at G-Force. It is more informal, more open to suggestion. I've also been able to play with lots of new and better tools which are built specifically for one job! |
