Following the completion of the modifications yesterday, ThrustSSC ran in the early morning of Tuesday 3rd June and reached a peak speed of approximately 462mph. The track used for this run was more uneven that previously encountered. ThrustSSC's suspension coped exceptionally well, however the pitot tube airspeed sensor worked loose during the run and therefore the design team could not confirm the speed accurately. Because the pitot tube could not be re-bonded before the temperature rose above the team's self-imposed limits, the second run had to be postponed.
ThrustSSC will repeat the run profiles of 460 and 530 mph ground speed, originally planned for Tuesday 3rd June. The team will yet again be on the Al Jafr desert preparing to run at first light.
ThrustSSC Internet site (http://thrustssc.digital.co.uk) continues to report the events in Jordan as they happen. Details of runs are reported within hours, together with high quality digital pictures. High quality radio reports are available for downloading, and an online competition is creating much interest from around the world. Total accesses to date is 7.8 million.
Due to rising temperatures, it is becoming critical to run ThrustSSC before 9:30am - first run is planned for 6:00am. The rising temperatures in the car's equipment bays makes the computer power supplies shut down as a fail-safe mechanism.
