Thrust SSC will make its first ever public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed over the weekend of June 22/23.
Designed to break the sound barrier and set the world's first supersonic land speed record, Thrust will take pride of place on the lawn outside the front of Goodwood House. The twin jet engined machine will come straight from engine testing at Farnborough. The team leaves for its first desert runs in the Middle East in July.
"I am absolutely thrilled that we can give Thrust its first public appearance at Goodwood," said project leader Richard Noble, "beause we announced our plans at last year's Festival of Speed and received tremendous support from both Lord March and the enormous crowd of enthusiasts who go to this great event."
Thrust SSC was built at G-Force in Fontwell just a few miles from Goodwood and its appearance at the Festival is sure to attract a huge crowd of supporters and well-wishers ahead of the record attempt later this year.
The competition between RAF test pilot Andy Green in Thrust and Craig Breedlove in Spirit of America has been billed as the greatest race on earth. The two men will make their attempts on the world land speed record in September, using Black Rock desert in Nevada where Richard Noble set the current record in Thrust II back in 1983.
Visitors to the Festival of Speed on Saturday June 22 and Sunday June 23 will be able to take a close look at Thrust SSC while the team carry out last minute modifications before going to the Middle East. Both Richard Noble and Andy Green will be at Goodwood to answer any questions about the car that is aimed at breaking the sound barrier.
