Following yesterday's delays caused by high winds and dust storms, the ThrustSSC engineering team today completed their preparations for the next series of high speed runs. A key part of the preparations have been the planned changes to the rear suspension capability to give greater downforce needed at higher speeds. The only other engineering work outstanding before the next runs is a compressor wash that will take place tomorrow morning on the desert with the help of the Gerlach Fire Brigade.
The Spirit of America team called off their runs planned for today because of continuing winds and swirling rain clouds that produced light showers. The forecast for the next few days is good and it is expected that both teams will run tomorrow. During this period, track preparation has continued, bolstered by the ever increasing number of Mach 1 Club members arriving on site, while the USAC timekeepers now have all their equipment set up and tested ready for use.
Spirit of America will make their next runs tomorrow AM, with the ThrustSSC runs planned for 13:00. Two runs are scheduled at Mach 0.82 (624 miles per hour ground speed) and Mach 0.85 (647 mphg).
The joint SSC/SoA security operation is working well with the ever increasing numbers of press, TV and sponsors arriving on site.
