Following the highest run speed todate 624mph on run 45, the subsequent run on 13th September was aborted due to a computer freezing which was primarily a software problem. This has now been corrected.
Currently having worked for the better part of 90 days without a break the Thrust Team are taking a one day rotating break over the next two days while the ThrustSSC car is stripped down for a full inspection prior to the high speed runs. In addition the Design Team have decided to reposition the rear steering legs in order to increase the downthrust range.
The Thrust base with its inflatable hangar has survived the high winds and storms of the last 24 hours and the new biodegradable white line track markings have survived the sandstorms well. The Black Rock weather is now calmer with a slight breeze.
Agreement has been reached with the United States Auto Club for the timing of the ThrustSSC high speed runs and the USAC timing team arrive to set up this evening.
The Spirit of America team are also preparing to run again shortly and it is thought that they may make the next runs on the 17th.
The inspection and changes to ThrustSSC will take the next two days and we expect to run again for the first timed runs on the 18th.
The ThrustSSC objective this fall is to achieve the first supersonic World Land Speed Record - which means a peak speed in excess of 750mph. To achieve this the speeds above 650mph (Mach 0.85) have to be increased in small increments which is expected to start later this week.
