The Peppermill Casino in Reno is offering two special packages for visitors to the World Land Speed Record attempt:
There is only one motel in Gerlach, which will be very full over the period of the trials. We are preparing a list of local guest rooms, apartments and trailers that may be available in the Gerlach/Empire area.
Camping is possible at a site on the desert playa close to the access and spectator area at Mile 11 north of Gerlach. The desert campsite will have portable toilets and rubbish bins.
It is expected that camping in other areas around Gerlach and the desert will be forbidden, and all campers directed to this desert site and the R.V. park.
Renting a camper or motorhome is an excellent option. There is an RV park in Gerlach with all hook-ups for RVs, run by Cecil Courtney.
The Black Rock is an area of exceptional natural and cultural interests - interests which can be easily damaged by careless use of the desert and its surrounding area. When visting the Black Rock, please read and adhere to the principles of the BLM's resource-preservation programs, Tread Lightly! and Leave No Trace.
