Well, as you will know from the last Project Bulletin, we finally had to face the fact that we would not make it to Black Rock in 1995. When the project was announced in June 1994 we had very little other than a completed research project and the tubing to begin construction of the chassis. But that was it - no money, the beginnings of a team, a handful of brave sponsors and suppliers and a huge amount of enthusiasm, dedication and sheer determination to get the job done. Getting a project of this scale completed and ready to run in little over twelve months would have been a staggering achievement.
The reality is that there is simply too much to do to make sensible use of the limited amount of running time available on the Black Rock Desert before the winter rains arrive. It would just have been possible to catch up on lost time by securing more funds and employing more people to work around the clock, but with safety as the absolute priority there are some areas of the project that simply can't be speeded up. Even if further funds had been secured it could all have been for nought anyway, since reports from Nevada tell us that the desert has taken a long time to dry this year and early rain is predicted. As you will read elsewhere, we are looking for alternative sites for the spring and we will be at Black Rock in 1996.
Right now, we are working flat out in order to get the car to the London Motor Show on 19th October 1995. The stand is huge and sure to be the major attraction of the show. We hope to see you there.
