Of all the Mach 1 Club members visiting the team in Jordan, there were three who were always together, always smiling and happy, and totally absorbed in everything Jordan and ThrustSSC had to offer!
Ken Waughman was the one to blame for the whole adventure in Jordan, for it was he who responded to Tomorrow's World suggesting the Al Jafr site as somewhere suitable to run. Ken had a whale of a time, and is now quite famous throughout Jordan as the man who cooked chips and brewed tea in the middle of the desert!!!
Ken met up with Brian Taylor and Bob Ibbetson on the journey out, and it was Bob who penned the following work for us to enjoy!
Once upon a time, a long time ago, there were three wise men. One was called "Ken" and he lived in the land of the Essex girl. One was called "Brian" and he was from the land of the Berkshire downs, and the third was called "Bob" and he was from the land of the Yorkshire pudding.
One day, a voice from the Heavens spoke to them each in turn, and it told them they must join together, for they had a mission to travel to a land far away, to seek and find a holy place. This place was known only to the wise man "Ken".
This holy place must be flat, and they must go to the centre of this place and meet with the great King Noble and his faithful disciples. He will tell them to look to the north as far as the eye can see, and there must be no man nor beast nor stone upon the ground, and they must look to the south and this must be the same.
If there be stones on the ground, then they will pay penance and remove all these stones, every one, be it as big as a house or as small as a pea. They will clear a path one league to the north and one league to the south, and then take all these stones to the edge of the holy place and buid an altar with them, and for 14 days and 14 nights they must do this penance.
When all this is done, the mighty silver chariot will appear on this holy ground. Their reward for all this hard labour will be to touch and see the silver chariot roar many times across this holy ground.
So it came to pass that the three wise men met together at the place called "Terminal 3" and through the golden gate No. 9 were they boarded the flying magic carpet, which whisked them to this wonderous land.
They did all things the voice had said, and the great King Noble passed his blessing over them, saying .."bloody marvelous!"
So their reward was truly great. For they did see the mighty silver chariot roar across the holy ground.
Verily I say unto you, they were three very wise men indeed.
...And of course, they will all live happily ever after.
