A tie-down test in the King Feisal Al Jafr airbase’s test cell on Monday revealed a problem with the Non-Return Valves between the fuel tanks and pumps (in the event of one pump failing these prevent the working pump from simply transferring fuel from one tank to the other and bursting the second tank). New valves and flanges have been manufactured and brought over from the UK by a contingent of Mach 1 Club members.
This problem has delayed the first runs of the car on Al Jafr desert by a few days, and these are now scheduled for Sunday 10th November.
The track has been marked out and prepared during the summer by Andrew Noble and the Royal Jordanian Air Force. The remaining task is to ‘de-fod’ the surface - collecting all stones and other debris. This has progressed quickly - four tracks (of a total of seventeen) are now completed and the next three are in progress. The newly arrived Mach 1 Club members will be extremely useful here!
