Project Status - Al Jafr, Jordan - 2nd November 1996

Car

A tie-down test in the King Feisal Al Jafr airbase’s test cell on Monday revealed a problem with the Non-Return Valves between the fuel tanks and pumps (in the event of one pump failing these prevent the working pump from simply transferring fuel from one tank to the other and bursting the second tank.). New valves and flanges are being manufactured and brought over from the UK.

This problem has delayed the first runs of the car on Al Jafr desert by a few days, and these are now scheduled for Saturday 10th November.

Desert

The track has been marked out and prepared during the summer by Andrew Noble and the Royal Jordanian Air Force. The remaining task is to ‘de-fod’ the surface - collecting all stones and other debris. This has progressed quickly - four tracks (of a total of seventeen) are now completed and the next four are in progress.
